Two Colorado players to miss Pac-12 Championship after bar fight

Saturday’s 27-22 victory over Utah sent Colorado to the Pac-12 Championship, and the celebration afterward will keep two Buffs players out of Friday’s title bout.

Abdul Awini and Chris Hill were arrested early Sunday morning after getting in a fight outside a Boulder bar, the Boulder Daily Camera reports.

According to the Boulder Police Department report, Awini and Hill were drinking at the Walrus Saloon when Awini was kicked out for excessive drunkenness. Awini blamed Hill for getting him kicked out and the two began to argue. Hill then punched Awini.

Officers arrived and began treating Awini’s wounds when, according to the report, they found packets believed to be containing cocaine in Awini’s wallet. Awini tacitly admitted to possessing the controlled substance when asking what his charges were because “you know I got some (expletive) in my wallet.”

Awini was arrested on charges of drug possession, while Hill was charged with third-degree assault. Hill has been suspended for Friday’s game, while Awini has been suspended from all team activities.

Each player’s absence shouldn’t affect the Buffaloes’ chances of knocking off Washington; Awini has been battling an injury after earning playing time on special teams, while Hill has recorded one 4-yard touchdown reception from his tight end position this season.
