Acting Baylor HC Jim Grobe defends Wake announcer who leaked info

You just knew that, at some point, these two scandals would intersect.

The man in the midst of the controversy at Wake Forest, Tommy Elrod, played his college football for the Demon Deacons. For 11 years thereafter, he was a part of Jim Grobe‘s Wake football staff but wasn’t retained by Dave Clawson upon his hiring in 2014. Hired by IMG to serve as an announcer on Wake football radio broadcasts, Elrod was subsequently accused of providing confidential information to Demon Deacon football opponents as far back as 2014.

Now the interim head coach at Baylor, Grobe used his Bears pulpit Wednesday to defend Elrod, and in the process proved to be as tone-deaf to this situation as he has been to the more egregious one that led him to Waco in the first place.

Loves Wake Forest? I shudder to think what he would’ve surreptitiously done had he hated his alma mater.

Louisville’s athletic director inexplicably confirmed in a statement Wednesday afternoon that one of his football coordinators had received inside information from Elrod in the week leading up to the game between the two football programs this year. Subsequent to that, the ACC confirmed it was investigating the burgeoning scandal that will likely grow to include schools beyond the U of L.
