Report: Randy Edsall ‘very strong candidate’ for UConn job

At least at UConn, what’s old could become new once again.

The day after Christmas, the Huskies announced that they had fired head coach Bob Diaco after three seasons on the job. A day after the dismissal, a report has emerged that former UConn head coach Randy Edsall has emerged as a “very strong candidate” to return as coach.

Edsall spent a dozen seasons as UConn’s head coach, guiding the Huskies to a 74-70 record from 1999-2010. Since Edsall departed for Maryland, UConn has gone 24-49 in six seasons.

Fired by Maryland midway through the 2015 season, Edsall is currently serving as “director of Football Research” for the NFL’s Detroit Lions.
