USF assistants will split Willie Taggart’s bowl win bonus

South Florida assistant coaches will find a little something extra in their post-Christmas stockings this year.

USF jumped out to a double-digit halftime lead on South Carolina in the Birmingham Bowl Thursday and then hung on to beat the Gamecocks in overtime. Willie Taggart‘s USF contract called for the head coach to receive a $25,000 bonus for a bowl win; Taggart, of course, is now the head coach at Oregon and didn’t coach his former team to the postseason win.

So, what will happen to the bonus money?

According to the Tampa Bay Times, the university has confirmed that Taggart’s nine assistants will split the bonus money. It’s unclear how the money will be divided, whether some, like offensive coordinator T.J. Weist, who took over as interim head coach, will receive a larger share of the financial pie than others. If it’s split evenly, each assistant would be in line for roughly $2,800 apiece in addition to any other bonuses they were set to receive.

One of those assistants and his heftier wallet could be headed to Eugene to reunite with Taggart.

Pimpleton likely wont be the last USF assistant to join their former head coach with the Ducks. Its unclear if new head coach Charlie Strong will retain any of Taggart’s former coaches, although, according to the Times, quarterbacks coach Shaun King could be in line to be retained.
