Indiana WR Simmie Cobbs latest to leave early for NFL draft

Another day, another early defection.

The latest to leave collegiate eligibility on the table to play for money is Simmie Cobbs, with the Indiana wide receiver confirming via social media that he will be passing up a fifth season with the Hoosiers in order to declare for the 2018 NFL draft next April. “Indiana gave me the chance that no one else gave me,” Cobbs wrote, “and I will forever be grateful for my time here.”

Cobbs finishes his time with the Hoosiers with 139 receptions for 1,990 yards and 12 touchdowns. He was IU’s leading receiver in 2015 and 2017 -- he missed most of 2016 because of a season-ending injury suffered in Week 2 -- totaling 72 catches this past season.

Those 72 receptions were second in the Big Ten.
