AT DUKE, A 4-8 RECORD EARNS CUTCLIFFE A NEW CONTRACT

How low are the expectations at Duke? So low that coach David Cutcliffe, following a 4-8 record in his first season, just got a two-year contract extension.Duke athletic director Kevin White (who was the athletic director at Notre Dame when Charlie Weis signed his current contract) called Cutcliffe “an elite player within the entire college football coaching community."I’m not sure what it says about Duke that 4-8 makes someone an elite coach, but I am sure that the Blue Devils showed improvement in Cutcliffe’s first season. After winning a grand total of four games from 2004 to 2007, the Blue Devils won four of their first even under Cutcliffe before ending the season on a five-game losing streak.Cutcliffe is under contract through 2015.
