FERENTZ GETS EXTENDED

Take note, Division 1-A head coaches, as to what happens when your name is associated with an NFL vacancy.According to the Iowa Press-Citizen, Kirk Ferentz and the University of Iowa have reached an agreement on a contract extension for the long-time Hawkeye coach. The new deal will run through the 2015 season."Kirk Ferentz has shown over a twenty-year period he loves the University and the state of Iowa,” said athletic director Gary Barta. “He is a great fit for the Hawkeye program. As our head coach the past 10 years, he’s proven himself to be a winner and a strong leader of the Hawkeye program. I’m thrilled to have him as Iowa’s head football coach.""I continue to consider it an honor to coach at the University of Iowa and I am very appreciative of the University extending my contract,” Ferentz said in his own statement. “Gary Barta and President Mason have been very supportive of our efforts. I feel fortunate to be at Iowa and I am very excited about the future of our program. While the new contract does not call for an increase in Ferentz’s current base salary, it does provide additional compensation for “significant achievements”, the paper said.Ferentz’s name has been attached to several NFL head-coaching rumors over the past few years, including one this offseason.Ferentz, who will enter his 11th season as the Hawkeyes’ head coach, was rumored to be attached at the hip of longtime friend Scott Pioli, who became the general manager of the Kansas City Chiefs last month and ultimately fired then-HC Herm Edwards.
