NEW DETAILS EMERGE IN LEACH NEGOTIATIONS

Well, put me in the Mike Leach camp for this one, as new details have emerged about the contentious negotiations between Leach and Texas Tech.ESPN the Magazine Senior Writer Bruce Feldman reports that Mike Leach was ready to sign a new 5-year deal with Texas Tech before they added four stipulations.Four absolutely ridiculous stipulations.According to Feldman, Leach confirmed to him that he was on the verge of signing a new $17 million contract before Texas Tech tried to add these provisions.- If Leach is fired, the contract is only guaranteed to 12%.- His buyout would be increased from $500,000 to $1.5 million- Leach would have to get permission to speak with another school, or else risk owing Tech $1.5 million- All money from his personal speaking opportunities or future book deals would go to Texas Tech.Pretty much all four of these provisions are deal-breakers. No elite level coach is going to agree to have their contract only guaranteed to 12%. For example, Mark Mangino‘s and Bill Snyder‘s contracts are both 100% guaranteed.Combine that with petty written clauses for talking with other schools, and trying to take the money that Leach would earn from speaking engagements and books, and Texas Tech athletic director Gerald Myers is officially delusional.
