MONTANA’S SON TO VISIT BUCKEYES

The son of Hall of Fame quarterback Joe Montana will visit Ohio State early next week, the Columbus Dispatch is reporting.High school QB Nick Montana has been impressed by what he’s seen of the Buckeyes on TV the last couple of years -- he’s obviously too busy during BcS season for any type of football viewing -- and now he wants to get an up-close and personal look at the university."Coach (Jim) Tressel is an amazing coach; his record speaks for itself,” the younger Montana told The Dispatch. “The whole environment at Ohio State -- it is such a tremendous program. I can’t think of a bad year they’ve had for a while now. The football is always great. I am very interested in them."While the Montana name may open a few doors that would be closed to some, Joe’s second son has shown on the field that he’s worthy of being considered one of the top high school QBs in the country.Last season at Oaks Christian (CA), Montana threw 33 touchdowns against a mere seven picks in leading his high school to an undefeated record and a state championship. It’s number like those, not necessarily his name, that has gotten the younger Montana scholarship offers from LSU, South Carolina, Stanford and California. Texas, Alabama and Tennessee, the paper said, are also considering offers to the high schooler. In addition to his visit to Ohio State next week, Montana will also visit Texas and, possibly, Alabama."Whither Notre Dame?”, you may be asking yourself right about now.It seems as though the younger Montana is shying away from his father’s alma mater and seems determined to carve out his own football path away from his dad’s immense shadow."There are still a lot of questions about the pressures, and whether I’m trying to live up to what my dad did, and the hype and all that,” Montana said. “But I don’t pay any attention to it. If there is pressure, I don’t feel it. I’m just trying to make a name for myself right now.”
