There has been plenty of prognosticating about prep quarterbacks that haven’t quite come to fruition. Whether it’s Beano Cook making the statements about Ron Powlus, or the adoration that swirled around high profile busts like C.J. Leak, Kyle Wright, or Anthony Morelli, it’s becoming rare that these lofty projections actually pan out.Add Texas recruit Garrett Gilbert to the list of signal callers who have lofty expectations heaped on to them. And the thanks for that undue pressure goes to former Texas A&M and Mississippi State coach Jackie Sherrill.Speaking with the New Braunfels Herald-Zeitung this weekend, Sherrill heaped high praise on the five-star prospect, comparing him to Dan Marino, who Sherrill coached while at Pitt. “I think he’s the best quarterback I’ve seen since Danny."Texas fans should either be incredibly excited for the arrival of Gilbert, or dreading the enormous weight just put on the teenager’s shoulders.
