KIFFIN BLASTS GAMECOCKS WITH PUMPING GAS BOMB

As CFT’s own John Taylor wrote earlier, recruiting wars can get a little testy. In the case of Orson Charles, Lane Kiffin had his big-boy pants on, keeping everything on the cordial side, while Pete Carroll smarted after talking the already signed number one recruited quarterback in the country out of his jersey number with hopes of luring Orson Charles to South Central.Yet just when we think young Kiffin might have his “stuff” together, he goes and does something like this... and totally redeems himself. In the heated pursuit of South Carolina receiver Alshon Jeffrey, Kiffin went head-to-head with former mentor Pete Carroll and nemesis Steve Spurrier. While Jeffrey was committed to Southern Cal since last June, he opened up his recruiting and all but decided on staying home and playing for the Gamecocks. While programs like Florida and Alabama tried to get in the door with the talented wideout, Jeffrey was down to both USCs and Tennessee. After it looked as though Kiffin had lost the battle for Jeffrey, ESPN.com’s Chris Low reports that Kiffin took off the gloves.“According to Jeffrey and Wilson, Kiffin told Jeffrey that if he chose the Gamecocks, he would end up pumping gas for the rest of his life like all the other players from that state who had gone to South Carolina.”I’d like to personally thank Lane Kiffin for giving me things to write about on slow days like today. While he might be incredibly irresponsible, unethical, and borderline delusional, he sure is making SEC football fun.
