Three Auburn Defenders Leave Program

Three players from the defensive side of the ball are off the Auburn football team. There is no word on whether they were kicked off the team or left on their own accord, as head coach Gene Chizik was on vacation and unavailable for comment.

Safety Christian Thompson, defensive tackle Jomarcus Savage and linebacker Marcus Jemison were all members of the 2008 recruiting class and were potential backups on the depth chart. This is the second roster purge of the Gene Chizik era at Auburn, as four players left the team back in January.

Of the three players leaving, Thompson was the first in line for playing time, as he was in the mix for a nickel back spot behind starting safeties Mike McNeil and Zac Etheridge.

Both Savage and Jemison missed last seasons with injuries.
