K-State Starter Latest To Be Popped For The Hops

After a relatively quiet period, police blotter-wise, over the last two weeks, collegiate players have come out with both their 12 ounces blazing the last 24 hours.

According to the Kansas City Star, Kansas State senior defensive lineman Jeffrey Fitzgerald was arrested early Sunday morning and charged with driving under the influence.

A police officer noticed Fitzgerald driving erratically and pulled the lineman over. The lineman was subsequently charged with DUI.

“It was a simple DUI,” said Lt. Herb Crosby told The Star. “An officer observed some erratic driving, stopped (Fitzgerald) and arrested him for DUI.”

Fitzgerald sat out the 2008 season after transferring to KSU from Virginia.

As he had 13 starts as a sophomore with the Cavaliers in 2007, Fitzgerald is slated to start on the inside of the Wildcats’ line, and his presence will free up Brandon Howard to move outside and take greater advantage of the sophomore’s pass-rushing skills.

It remains to be seen what type of punishment, if any, will await Fitzgerald, and if any punishment meted out by head coach Bill Snyder will affect the d-line rotation for the early part of the season.
