Beamer pleased with Vick reinstatement

Earlier today, the NFL announced the conditional reinstatement of quarterback Michael Vick.

While some are not in agreement with the commissioner’s decision, you can count his former head coach as one of the many who are pleased the NFL has taken steps to allow Vick to resume playing football professionally and given him a chance to get his life back together.

“I’m really pleased that Michael’s going to have a chance to get back in the NFL,” Virginia Tech’s Frank Beamer said this afternoon. “I think he’s making every effort to get his life back right and make good decisions. I’m firmly pulling for him. I think he’s going to have a great story. He had a lot, he lost a lot and now through hard work and dedication and making good decisions he’s going to get back on his feet. ...

“I think he can affect a lot of young people by how he comes back, gets it going and gets things back right.”

Beamer wouldn’t bite when asked if he agreed with Roger Goodell having the right to hold Vick out of up to five games -- at least. Or, even, none --to start the 2009 season.

“There’s a lot of takes on that,” he said, “but I think the big picture is he’s going to have a chance if he does things right to get back in the NFL, and that’s what needs to happen.”

Of course, some would argue that Vick gave up the right to play football in the NFL already, but that’s another story for another day on another website...
