Defensive tackle Michael Atkinson has been suspended for at least the first three games of the season, the Idaho Statesman is reporting.
The redshirt freshman was arrested earlier this month for DUI and leaving the scene of an accident.
“He’s got some things to do along with being suspended,” head coach Chris Petersen said. “If he takes care of what he needs to take care of for his team, for us, for the university, then we’ll get him back after that.”
Atkinson will miss games against Oregon, Miami (OH) and Fresno State.
As he has an ankle injury to deal with as well, Atkinson will be limited when summer camp rolls around. The injury is unrelated to the automobile accident.
