The timeline initially set for the return of Aaron Corp was as far away as the week leading up to Southern Cal’s regular-season opener.
If the Trojans quarterback has his way about it -- and the injury will allow it --- he could be back as early as next week.
Corp seems to be progressing at a very rapid rate from his cracked fibula, and that progress has him eyeing an early return to the practice field and the stalled competition with Matt Barkley for the starting job.
“The main thing is keeping the swelling down, because if I go out there and it swells up, it’s going to be two days to get it back down,” Corp said. “I feel good, and if I had to practice and we had to play (next) week, I feel like I could go.”
The sophomore will undergo X--rays tomorrow to determine how far along in the healing process the injury is, and that will likely determine how soon -- or much further away -- he is from returning.
