Southern Miss’ all-time leading rusher tweaks hammy

Southern Miss suffered a little bit of an injury scare as running back Damion Fletcher went down with a hamstring injury during a scrimmage yesterday.

Fortunately for the Golden Eagles, the injury doesn’t appear to be serious.

“Damion tweaked his hamstring yesterday in the scrimmage,” head coach Larry Fedora said in a press release issued by the school. “He was smart about it and went down immediately when he felt it, but he will be fine is what they tell me. So we are just letting him rest it and get him ready to go.”

Fletcher, who’s No. 1 in school history with 4,287 yards rushing, missed all of spring practice after being suspended following his February arrest for improperly discharging a firearm. He was finally reinstated in the middle of last month.

Fletcher wasn’t the only Golden Eagles back injured yesterday as freshman Tracey Lampley suffered a rib contusion. Fedora said Lampley was X-rayed and the results showed nothing serious that would cause the back to miss an extended period of time.
