USF: No ACL tear for back

The initial fears of an ACL tear for running back Jamar Taylor (no relation) have morphed into a more positive prognosis, the school announced this afternoon.

According to a press release, Taylor was diagnosed with a sprained knee after apparently undergoing an MRI today. The MRI was scheduled for yesterday but, according to Greg Auman of the St. Petersburg Times, the machine was not in working order.

While the news is certainly good for the Bulls, Taylor will still be out of action for 8-10 weeks.

Still, there was certainly a sigh of relief from the Bulls when the test results came in.

“We are excited for Jamar,” head coach Jim Leavitt said in a statement. “Our team is excited that he won’t need surgery and that he should be able to rejoin the team during the Big East portion of the schedule.”

If Taylor is out for the minimum, he’d return in time for Cincinnati on Oct. 15. If it’s the latter portion of the time frame, he’d be back for West Virginia Oct. 30.

South Florida technically begins the Big East portion of their schedule on Oct. 3, so the reality is the Big East portion of their schedule begins against the Bearcats following a bye weekend.
