Report: Georgia’s Cox battling flu-like symptoms

Ahead of the huge Georgia-Oklahoma State showdown in Stillwater Saturday night, it was the Cowboys whose players were seemingly dropping left and right then back left again.

Today, however, comes word that the status of one of their opponent’s players is kinda, sorta up in the air.

According to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, and confirmed by three sources, starting quarterback Joe Cox is suffering from flu-like symptoms and quite possibly didn’t fly with the team this afternoon to Oklahoma State. UGA officials could not confirm to the paper whether or not Cox was on the flight.

The good news for Bulldog fans, however, is the sources said Cox is “expected” to play.

If Cox, a fifth-year senior with limited experience thanks to the presence of Matthew Stafford, is unable to go, sophomore Logan Gray would get the start. Gray has thrown as many passes in a Div. 1-A game as I have -- none -- so UGA had better hope that Cox is ready a little over 24 hours from now.
