Crystal, Heisman gone in one fell swoop?

(My apologies for the updates, or lack thereof. I’d strongly urge against Windstream DSL if there are other choices.)

An agonizing sequence of events last night on the turf of the new Dallas Cowboy digs likely saw Oklahoma lose any shot at a return trip to the BcS title game.

Not because of one game lost to BYU, mind you. No, because, without Sam Bradford, this team is toast. It’s done.

Thanks for playing. Here are your parting gifts.

As it stands now, Bradford is out indefinitely with a sprained AC joint in his throwing shoulder after being driven to the ground on a clean hit by Cougar linebacker Coleby Clawson late in the first half. Not that it matters much, the injury will likely kill any chances of Bradford becoming the second player in collegiate history to win back-to-back Heismans.

Depending on the severity of the sprain, Bradford could be out for a period of 1-2 weeks for a mild sprain, upwards of eight weeks with a more serious sprain, or, in the absolute worst-case scenario, he could require surgery.

At this time, OU is not releasing any type of information as to the severity of the injury.

In the wake of the twin losses -- both Bradford and the game 14-13 -- the Sooners are trying their best to put on a brave front in the face of their season swirling down the porcelain.

Of course it’s going to hurt you,” defensive tackle Gerald McCoy said. “But you can’t make excuses for yourself. We’ve got to come together and step up... People get hurt in this game.”

“Whether it’s Sam or Landry (Jones, OU’s freshman backup) in there, it doesn’t matter. I expect them to play well,” OU coach Bob Stoops said, “and expect (the defense) to be a few plays better than today.”

Regardless of what type of spin the team puts on it right now -- and it’s something they must do -- losing Bradford for an extended period of time is the death knell for the Sooners’ season.
