Stoops still not giving a timeline for Bradford’s return

If Bob Stoops is anything, it’s consistent. At least as it concerns the status of quarterback Sam Bradford.

Ever since Bradford injured his throwing shoulder in the season opener, the Oklahoma head coach has steadfastly refused to set any type of timeline for the Heisman winner’s return. Today, even as Bradford returned to practice for the first time yesterday, Stoops kept up his steady tack.

“I just don’t want Sam to have to deal with the pressure of everybody’s expectations. It’s just not fair,” Stoops said at today’s press luncheon. “The bottom line is it’ll be day-to-day as he improves.

I’m not gonna detail day-to-day.”

As the Sooners have a bye this weekend, it gives Stoops even more reason to continue being evasive as to a specific return date for Bradford. Stoops even refused to speculate on when Bradford would need to return to practice in order to ready himself to play Miami Oct. 3, saying that reporters can “ask me that next week. Right now, this is where it’s at.”

Stoops also seemed none too happy that at least one of his players -- wide receiver Ryan Broyles -- spilled the beans to the media on Bradford returning to practice. Offensive coordinator Kevin Wilson also revealed that Bradford had resumed practicing, but his boss made no mention of that apparent slip o’ the tongue.

“I’m a little disappointed our players had so much to say,” Stoops said. “Not that we’re at all trying to be coy or anything that’s behind the scenes.”
