Trojan CB on bike wreck: ‘God straight up saved me’

Way back on Sept. 17, Southern Cal cornerback Brian Baucham was involved in a motorcycle accident on his way to the Trojans’ football facility.

He suffered severe abrasions and has been out ever since. However, that doesn’t begin to tell the story of what happened that morning.

From the Orange County Register:

The accident happened about 6:35 a.m. Baucham was going north on I-110 toward campus for a morning workout from his home in Torrance. He said he was passing a car when the car suddenly drifted into his lane, clipping the front tire of his Suzuki 900 bike.

The motorcycle starting wobbling, and Baucham was leaning toward traffic. So he turned the front wheel all the way to the left, toward the shoulder.

“As I was going down ... I pushed off the bike so the bike wouldn’t fall on me,” Baucham said. “My left side hit the ground first; that’s why the abrasions on the left side are worse.”

Calling them “abrasions” is a ridiculous understatement. The worst ones are more like second-degree burns. That’s what happens when you’re going 70-75 mph, get thrown from a motorcycle and slide 150-200 feet.

Needless to say, the incident has led to Baucham, who had only been riding a bike for three months, to swear off that form of transportation. Apparently, he’s not willing to tempt fate twice.

Said Baucham, “I’m lucky I’m still alive. God straight up saved me.”

Yeah, no kidding.
