Lobos suspend second-leading receiver

‘Tis the season for suspensions in New Mexico, apparently.

One day after announcing a one-game suspension for head coach Mike Locksley for allegedly punching an assistant coach, interim head coach George Barlow announced today that redshirt freshman wide receiver Ty Kirk has been suspended for the Lobos’ next two games.

The official reason given for the suspension was a violation of team rules.

(Maybe Kirk punched two coaches. Or one twice.)

Kirk has started all six games this season. He is the Lobos’ second-leading receiver with 17 catches for a team-high 206 yards and one touchdown.

The redshirt freshman will miss UNM’s home game against UNLV on Oct. 24 and the trip to San Diego State on Oct. 31. Barlow said Kirk will continue to practice with the team during the suspension.
