Cal’s Best out of hospital

Cal running back Jahvid Best has been released from an Oakland hospital this evening, less than 24 hours after he was knocked unconscious following a high-flying leap into the end zone.

Best has been diagnosed with a severe concussion, and will miss this weekend’s game against No. 17 Arizona. It’s also possible that Best could miss additional time as he attempts to recover from the horrifying incident.

“We are relieved and thankful that Jahvid has been released from the hospital and that his CT scans and X-rays have come back normal,” coach Jeff Tedford said.

Best suffered what was described as a “mild” concussion the previous week against Arizona State.

Given the fact that the back has suffered concussions in successive weeks, there appears to be a very good likelihood that the game against the Wildcats won’t be the last he misses.
