Corwin Brown steamed at Navy coach and cheapshot

Notre Dame associate head coach Corwin Brown met with the media yesterday and before he turned the page to Pitt had a few choice comments for Navy head coach Ken Niumataolo.

Brown was upset with Niumatalolo’s postgame comments where he called out the subpar game plan the Irish coaches put together for stopping Navy’s option attack, but tried to hedge his comments by saying “I really hope this doesn’t come across wrong.”

(Ask Bill Parcells how that one went, coach.)

“I thought it was very disappointing what the Navy head coach saidafter the game. He didn’t want something to be misconstrued, but thenhe said it, regarding how we prepared and what we prepared to do. Whether you think it’s the right thing to say or not, in thisprofession, all the classy guys that I’ve watched and played under andstudied, they would never say a thing like that. To say that we didn’tprepare well or have a game plan, that’s crazy.”

What got Brown even more heated was a slew of illegal cutblocks that Navy continued to make. Specifically, the block on Irish defensive back Robert Blanton. We had the Irish video guys pull the play to get a better look.

Tough not to understand why Brown was upset.

“I don’t ever get up here and talk about the illegal cut blocks. Theyhit Puppy (Brian Smith) illegally last year, and put him out. They hitRJ (Robert Blanton) on one of the most malicious plays I’ve ever seensince I’ve been playing and I called him about it.”

I talked more about the bad blood brewing in the up to now respectful rivalry over at the Inside the Irish blog.
