Surgery knocks ‘Canes’ Fox out of Champs bowl

Miami of Florida starting tackle Jason Fox underwent surgery in recent days and will miss the Hurricanes’ Champ Sports Bowl match-up with Wisconsin, the school announced via a press release today.

Additionally, it puts an end to Fox’s collegiate career.

Miami did not specify exactly why Fox had to undergo surgery other than to say that it was for a lower extremity injury. According to the Miami Herald, Fox was seen on the sidelines at practice Saturday with a large brace protecting his left knee.

“We have really appreciated all of Jason’s efforts this season as well as throughout his career,” head coach Randy Shannon said in a statement. “He’s had some nagging injuries this season, and has played through the pain to the point where we as a coaching staff and athletic training staff feel like it would be best for him to not play in the bowl game. Jason has a bright future ahead in football and he needs to be 100 percent going forward.”

Fox was named to the All-ACC first team this season after starting 11 games for the Hurricanes. His 47 career starts rank third all-time in school history.
