UGA close to snagging coordinator?

In the weeks that have followed the firing of Willie Martinez, several names - big and small -- have been attached to Georgia’s defensive coordinator vacancy.

Head coach Mark Richt had seemed to be on the verge of landing Bud Foster as his coordinator until Virginia Tech came in at the last-minute and sweetened the contract of the long-time Frank Beamer assistant.

Now, according to reports, Richt could be close to raiding an SEC school to fill the opening.

According to the Bayou Bengals Blog, LSU coordinator John Chavis has a lucrative offer on the table from UGA and, as of Tuesday night, has not decided whether or not to accept it.

Chavis is expected to address the media this afternoon as part of the Capitol One Bowl press conferences. Whether he addresses this situation during his allotted time remains to be seen.

Linebacker Kelvin Sheppard told a Baton Rouge television station that Chavis is staying with the Tigers.

“You knew if I was going anywhere, you’d be the first person I’d tell. I’m here with you all. I love it here. I’m not going anywhere,” Chavis allegedly said according to Sheppard.
