Gilbert’s chance at immortality was just fumbled away

With the ball pinned deep in their zone, Garrett Gilbert was starring immortality in the face when he was blind-sided by Eryk Anders.

After a defensive holding call got the Longhorns out from the shadow of their end zone, the senior linebacker came off the edge untouched and drilled the freshman quarterback, jarring the ball loose and giving Alabama the ball at the doorstep.

While a touchdown here might make it a moot point, Texas must be kicking themselves that they wasted a timeout because they didn’t have the right punt team out when Alabama was preparing to kick the ball to them.

(Mack Brown will kick himself for years over that shovel pass call...)

The Longhorns defense has a chance to keep Texas in this game with a stop. We’ll see if they get it.
