Dooley retains UT’s offensive coordinator

A fairly important holdover from Lane Kiffin‘s staff has been retained by new head coach Derek Dooley, Tennessee announced this evening.

According to the press release, offensive coordinator Jim Chaney will remain in the program and in the same position he held in 2009.

Last season, Chaney’s first in Knoxville, the Vols were 60th in the country at 383.5 yards per game in total offense and 43rd in total scoring with 29.3 points per game. In the year prior to Chaney’s arrival the Volunteers were absurdly inept on offense, averaging just 17.3 ppg (111th) and 268.8 ypg (115th).

The school also announced the hiring of Charlie Baggett, but did not specify what his position would be. Baggett spent last season as the wide receivers coach for the St. Louis Rams, and the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports that he will be the assistant head coach for the Volunteers.
