Coach set to jettison Air Force for Aggies

About a week’s worth of speculation will come to an end on Thursday as Texas A&M will name their new defensive coordinator, the Colorado Springs Gazette is reporting.

According to the Gazette, Tim DeRuyter will move on from the same position at Air Force to direct the Aggies’ defense. DeRuyter’s move has been a strong rumor since the middle of last week, and only intensified when Boise State coordinator Justin Wilcox -- the reported front runner along with DeRuyter -- announced over the weekend that he was staying with the Broncos.

The official announcement won’t be made until after a A&M Board of Regents meeting Thursday afternoon.

According to the meeting agenda, available on the Texas A&M Web site, one of the “Additional Items/Reports to Be Considered by the Board” is “Authorization for the President of Texas A&M University to Execute an Employment Contract with An Assistant Football Coach-Defensive Coordinator.” According to the meeting schedule, that will be discussed during the executive session that is estimated to finish at 2 p.m. Central time.

DeRuyter, an academy graduate, will replace Joe Kines, who retired from coaching at the end of December.
