Gamecocks lose backup QB

While South Carolina is seemingly set at quarterback for the next couple of years with Stephen Garcia, their “experienced” depth at the position took a hit today, The State newspaper is reporting.

Citing two unnamed sources, the paper reports that redshirt freshman Reid McCollum has decided to transfer from the school.

There is no indication yet as to where McCollum might go or what the reason(s) is behind his transfer, although the fact that Garcia still has two years of eligibility remaining could’ve played a role in the decision.

Last season, McCollum was the only other QB on the roster to throw a pass, completing 4-of-6 passes for 39 yards and a touchdown.
