SMU player charged with sexual assault

SMU defensive tackle Torlan Pittman was arrested Monday and charged with aggravated sexual assault, KBTX-TV in Bryan/College Station is reporting.

The incident allegedly occurred late last September at a party during the Mustangs’ bye weekend. A 22-year-old woman claimed that Pittman, along with former high school classmate and current college baseball player Sean Weatherford, drugged her at the party and took her to Weatherford’s apartment, where she was allegedly sexually assaulted.

Both Pittman and Weatherford claim that the sex was consensual.

“I am in shock,” head coach June Jones said. “If there is one kid that we feel shocked about something like this its Torlan. This caught us totally by surprise. We feel awful for everyone involved.”

Pittman has been indefinitely suspended by Jones, and the suspension will remain in place until the legal process runs its course.
