Ga. Tech add coach to Johnson’s staff

(We really need a Beavis and/or Butthead emoticon around here today.)

Head coach Paul Johnson stuck with familiarity in rounding out his coaching staff this afternoon, Georgia Tech announced in a press release.

According to the release, Johnson has hired Joe Speed to coach the Yellow Jacket linebackers. Specifically, Speed will be responsible for the inside ‘backers.

Speed spent the past eight seasons at the U.S. Naval Academy, including six years when Johnson was head coach of the Midshipmen.

The hiring of Speed, the release read, completes Georgia Tech’s 2010 coaching staff, following an unusual off-season in which four openings were filled.

“Joe worked six years with me at Navy and I saw first-hand what a good football coach he is,” Johnson said. “He will do a great job for us, on the field and off, and he will be a great representative of Georgia Tech.”
