Injured back still has eyes on Michigan starting job

The presumptive replacement for starter Brandon Minor, running back Vincent Smith is slowly but surely recovering from a torn ACL suffered in Michigan’s season-ending loss to Ohio State.

While he’s not yet 100-percent healthy -- he’ll miss spring practice after undergoing surgery nearly two months ago -- the progress Smith sees in his rehab has him convinced he’ll be healthy for the start of the 2010 regular season.

As well as take over for Minor in the Wolverines’ backfield.

Everything’s going good,” Smith said according to AnnArbor.com. “I’m getting the strength back and getting the balancing back and just walking good and jogging good on it, so everything looks good.”

Smith said that “the goal” is to win the starting job during summer camp after coming off a freshman season in which he rushed for 276 yards, 166 of which came in a blowout win over Delaware State.
