Wes Welker endorses new Ok. St. coordinator

Before making it to the NFL and becoming an All-Pro member of the New England Patriots, Wes Welker was a standout receiver for Mike Leach and his prolific offenses at Texas Tech.

A member of that offensive staff during Welker’s time in Lubbock, Dana Holgorsen, is now the offensive coordinator at Oklahoma State, and Welker credits Holgorsen into helping him develop into the player he is today.

So, needless to say, Welker feels like his former receivers coach will do an outstanding job directing the Cowboys’ offense.

He always had a really good offensive mind,” Welker told the Daily Oklahoman. “Being my position coach, I got to see a lot of what he brought to the table. He did a good job of taking advantage of what the defense gave us.”

Welker added that Holgorsen is one of the brightest offensive minds he’s ever been around.

“He’s way up there,” Welker said. “Especially at the college level. Knowing what I know now, I’ve learned that he’s very knowledgeable with what he’s doing out there, and he understands where to get guys the ball and give them the opportunity to make plays.”
