Stanford confirms Pep talk

[See what I did there?]

Yesterday, Tom Dienhart of Rivals.com reported that Pep Hamilton was moving from his new job at New Mexico to become part of Jim Harbaugh‘s Stanford coaching staff.

Today, the school confirmed Dienhart’s prescient report.

According to the press release, Hamilton has been named as the new Cardinal wide receivers coach replacing Ron Turner, who left the program last month for a job in the NFL.

“Pep Hamilton is an outstanding fit for our staff, both in our personality and in what we stand for,” Harbaugh said in a statement. “I value his experience at the highest level, and I am excited for his experience in the passing game of this offense. This will be a very smooth transition; Pep speaks our nomenclature.

“I am enthused for our players to learn from Coach Hamilton in their technique, fundamentals and the West Coast Offense. Their growth will come not only at their position, but also in understanding how the entire offense fits together. I feel that we have added in Pep another coordinator-level coach to the Stanford program and offense.”

Hamilton was hired in February to be the Lobos’ co-offensive coordinator/receivers coach. In the three years prior to that, he was quarterbacks coach of the Chicago Bears.
