Hurricanes’ offensive line taking a spring beating

The start of spring practice hasn’t exactly gone smoothly for the Miami Hurricanes’ offensive line.

According to the Palm Beach Post, three likely starters on the unit have been hampered by injuries suffered during the sessions.

Orlando Franklin, Brandon Washington and Joel Figueroa - all expected to be starters next season - have been unable to participate in practice recently because of assorted injuries.

Franklin, set to take over at left tackle for Jason Fox, has been out for about a week with and undisclosed injury. Figueroa, who will start at one guard spot, had shoulder surgery and won’t participate in spring practice. Washington, a starter at guard in the final two games of 2009, has his left leg wrapped stiffly in a brace and is rumored to have a torn MCL.

Head coach Randy Shannon attempted to downplay the spate of injuries that have hit the line, pulling out the it’s-not-the-regular-season card.
