Report: Seantrel ‘expected’ to sign with Trojans this week

It’s been nearly six weeks since top recruit Seantrel Henderson‘s somewhat surprising decision to delay signing his Letter of Intent after verbally committing to Southern Cal on national television.

Since then, there have been reports here and there that the offensive tackle -- rated as the No. 1 player in the country by most of the major recruiting services -- may be leaning toward backing away from the USC verbal and heading to Miami of Florida.

According to the South Florida Sun Sentinel, that’s likely not going to be the case.

The Sun Sentinel‘s Shandel Richardson reports via Twitter that Henderson is “expected to sign with USC this week”, then adds “Sorry Miami fans”.

No context for the Tweet was given and, as of yet, there’s no story expounding on the situation that appears on the Sun Sentinel‘s website.

But, it’s looking more and more likely that Henderson has decided that the NCAA cloud hanging over the Trojans football program is not dark enough -- and/or will clear by the time he enters school -- to preclude him from sticking with his initial decision.

UPDATE 10:57 a.m. ET -- From ESPN.com‘s Southeast Recruiting Blog:

Five-star offensive tackle Seantrel Henderson (Saint Paul, Minn./Cretin-Derham Hall) will sign with USC this week, according to his father Sean Henderson. He also received his ACT scores on Friday and is now academically eligible.

UPDATE 12:24 p.m. ET: Just to put the final nail in this coffin -- for today at least -- the New York Times reports that Henderson will sign with USC on Thursday.
