Report of USC findings being released Friday ‘absolutely false’

Apparently, we can all stand down. For now.

Lost amidst the potential implosion of the Big 12 is the fact that the NCAA’s report on their investigation into USC was supposed to be released on Friday. The key words there, of course, are “was” and “supposed”.

According to a member of the school’s media relations department, the NCAA’s findings will not be released on Friday as was reported by ESPN.com this past weekend.

“There are set channels for these kind of things, and we haven’t heard anything,” James Grant, USC’s assistant vice president of media relations, told Annenberg TV News. “The media reports are all absolutely false.”

Given that “it’s already been three months”, Grant said the report “could come next week.”

Or next year.

UPDATE 9:39 p.m. ET: From the Orange County Register:

An NCAA spokeswoman declined to comment on the infractions report’s ETA, saying only that the media would be alerted about 7 a.m. Pacific Time on the day the results are to be released.
