WR Simas suspended again; Colorado career could be kaput

For the third time in less than a year -- hell, less than ten months -- wide receiver Markques Simas has been suspended by head coach Dan Hawkins. Quite possibly, it’ll be the last time.

Not only was Simas suspended on Wednesday, a week after a warrant was issued for his arrest for failing to appear on a DUI charge that led to his second suspension, but Hawkins also stripped the junior of his scholarship.

While not completely ruling out a return, Hawkins said in a statement that the odds of Simas playing for Colorado again were slim.

“Markques must rectify several matters,” Hawkins said. “If he were to successfully complete a list of several issues, including processes by both the legal system and CU Office of Judicial Affairs, there is a slim possibility he could rejoin the team as a walk-on in the fall.”

Simas was suspended for the first two games of the 2009 season for violating unspecified team rules, but still finished second on the team in receptions (43) and receiving yards (585).

He also missed his entire redshirt freshman season after being declared academically ineligible.

Three suspensions and a missed season because of academics? C’mon, everybody that is a great athlete deserves a fifth chance...
