Troy attrition continues as USC fullback leaves for UConn

Is it getting to the point where we ask the last backup at USC to turn out the lights before he leaves?

No, not even remotely close to that of course, but Lane Kiffin and his wobbly sanction-hit program are facing yet another challenge when it comes to keeping some quality depth on their current roster heading into the 2010 season.

According to ESPN.com, fullback D.J. Shoemate has decided to transfer from USC. To UConn.

Again, Shoemate has decided to transfer to UConn. From USC.

“I have much love for the USC,” Shoemate told the website. “The school is great, the fans are phenomenal and I’ll be a Trojan for life. This was a business decision. When the sanctions came, the opportunity came to go. Playing running back is what my passion is and at UConn I will have an opportunity to play right away and hopefully contribute to an up-and-coming program.”

“Business decision”? We can hear it now and don’t want to see the comments that include some variation of “there’s no way UConn pays better than USC.” It’s deplorable and not acceptable.

Again, though, a player at USC has willingly decided to transfer to UConn. Storrs over Los Angeles.

Tough row to hoe for the time being, may we introduce you to Lane Kiffin.
