‘Catholics vs. Convicts’ v2.0 at Soldier Field a go

It’s been twenty years since Miami and Notre Dame last met on a football field. Two years from now, that venerable eighties rivalry will reportedly be renewed.

What has been a growing rumor for months is now all but official as the Chicago Tribune is reporting that the Irish and the Hurricanes will meet at historic Soldier Field on Oct. 6, 2012. The Miami Herald is also reporting that the renewal is a done deal, which has been at least three months in the making.

In addition to the one-off at the Chicago landmark, the two schools have also scheduled a future home-and-home series; in October of 2016, Miami will travel to South Bend, while Notre Dame will return the favor and head to South Florida in November of 2017.

The Tribune reports that the schools will not officially announce the series until, the paper writes, the Irish fill out a couple full seasons of schedules for the near term.

The ’12 game will mark the first time the two schools have met since the Irish beat the Hurricanes 29-20 in South Bend in 1990.
