USC’s Havili serves one-day suspension, is good to go

Last week, USC fullback Stanley Havili broke the face of teammate T.J. Bryant during a conditioning workout, prompting Bryant to undergo surgery to repair the damage to his left cheekbone and head coach Lane Kiffin to suspend Havili indefinitely Friday.

24 hours later and, amazingly, a one-day suspension for assaulting a teammate is enough penance.

From the Orange County Register:

Coach Lane Kiffin reinstated fullback Stanley Havili after several players asked that the senior be allowed to return to practice after Kiffin banished him Friday. That group included cornerback T.J. Bryant, whom Havili injured in an altercation last week, resulting in the one-day suspension.

In other words, Bryant got taught a lesson and got what he deserved. Apparently, that ne’er-do-well cornerback “asked” for some tutelage in a way that was not appreciated by the upperclassman Havili, and got instruction instead in the form of a fist or two to a region above the neck.

To his “credit”, Kiffin did make a comment about Havili’s “reinstatement” when asked about how those on the outside looking in would react to his decision.

I don’t concern myself with the perception of people outside the program,” Kiffin said.

Such class oozing from that Lane Kiffin guy. A storied, historic program such as USC should be so, so proud that their new coach is... this.
