Buffalo submits to being MACrifical lamb for Vols, UGA

And yes, somewhere, Steve Spurrier is quietly chuckling amongst himself over this official development.

As has been rumored since earlier this month, Buffalo has agreed to travel to Neyland Stadium in October of 2011 and take on Tennessee. This apparently means the Vols have indeed bought their way out of the home-and-home series with North Carolina that was scheduled for 2011 and 2012.

In addition to the game in Knoxville, the Bulls will play an SEC team the following season as well. According to the press release, Buffalo will play Georgia Sept. 1, 2012, in Sanford Stadium.

“We are excited to have the opportunity to play against two traditional SEC powers in a pair of great venues,” said Warde Manuel, UB’s Director of Athletics. “I know that our coaches and student-athletes get very motivated to test themselves against programs like these from one of the premier conferences in the country.”

This will mark the second and third games in the 96-year history of the school against teams from the SEC; Buffalo’s only other game against a team from that conference came in 2006 when UB played at then No. 2-ranked Auburn.

Final score? 38-7, for those wondering.
