Prince improving, could be a go for UCLA against K-State

Last week, head coach Rick Neuheisel set a Wednesday deadline for determining starting quarterback Kevin Prince‘s availability for the opener.

A day ahead of that deadline, things are looking up for the sophomore.

While no determination on his status has been made, Prince, the Los Angeles Daily News writes, saw his most extensive action since the second day of summer camp. Prince has been bothered by a strained oblique muscle in his back and has been limited for the majority of camp.

Prince spent the weekend resting and apparently, with the exception of the expected rust and a little tightness, that tack -- along with a little blood-spinning -- paid off.

“This is what we’ve been working up to,” Prince said. “That’s what the goal was, just get rest this weekend, take the scrimmage off Friday and rest Saturday and Sunday, and we were hoping to open up a little more and we did.

“We didn’t want to do too much, take it too far. I think it was a good start today.”

Whether or not it leads to a start on Saturday against Kansas State remains to be seen, but it certainly looks more plausible than it did even five days ago.
