Derrick Washington ‘permanently suspended’ by Mizzou

Unless Gary Pinkel is a graduate of the Chip Kelly School of Punishment, Derrick Washington has played his final game as a Missouri Tiger.

According to a press release issued by the school, Washington has been permanently suspended from the Missouri football program. The release also states that "[n]othing about this decision will affect his existing athletic scholarship as long as he remains enrolled at Mizzou.”

The school added that they will have no further comment on this matter.

Washington was charged Monday with felony deviate sexual assault. The charge stems from an incident in June in which a woman had accused him of sexual assault. The alleged victim stated that Washington had entered her apartment at 2:30 a.m. local time and assaulted her.

Washington was indefinitely suspended by Pinkel on Aug. 26 for an unspecified violation of team rules; it was reported the following day that a sexual assault complaint had been filed against him.

The senior co-captain had led the Tigers in rushing each of the past two seasons.
