True freshman Price to start for Deacons against Stanford

Perhaps the transition from high school to college football isn’t as difficult for some.

After an impressive performance in Wake Forest’s 54-48 victory over Duke, coach Jim Grobe has named true freshman Tanner Price as the Deacons’ starting quarterback for week three’s matchup against Stanford.

Price went 12-of-19 for 190 yards and three touchdown. Price also ran for an additional 56 yards and a touchdown.

The Austin, Texas product first stepped on the field in the first half for the Deacons when starter Ted Stachitas was sidelined with a bruised left hand and played the entire second half.

Starting a true freshman at quarterback is a big move, but Grobe feels the decision is simple.

“I think he graded really well,” Grobe said. “He had one of his better grades mentally, in making the right decisions, getting us in the right play, throwing to the right guy, handing it when he was supposed to -- things like that.”
