Rib injury no big deal for Rutgers’ Savage

After suffering a rib injury in Saturday’s 17-13 loss to North Carolina, Rutgers starting quarterback/doctor Tom Savage has declared himself physically ready to go for this weekend’s game against Tulane.

Given how he has performed thus far this season, we’re uncertain as to whether that’s a positive or negative development.

Savage did not practice with the team Sunday as a precaution, and was given Monday off with the rest of his teammates. The results of tests performed on the ribs weren’t in yet, but, according to Savage, he doesn’t need no stinkin’ test results.

He’s fine.

“Don’t know the results yet, but I’m feeling good,” Savage said. “I played the second half (against North Carolina) so I can play now. ...

“Everyday I feel better and better. I mean, after the game you’re sore but that just comes with the game. You’re going to have some bumps and bruises so you just have to go out and play.”

In three games this season, Savage has completed just 52 percent of his passes for 370 yards. He has but one touchdown versus three interceptions.
