Red Raiders suspend defensive lineman

Upon signing with Texas Tech following a highly productive JUCO season, Scott Smith was expected to provide a pass-rushing presence along the Red Raiders’ defensive line.

The junior has done just that -- three sacks and 14 tackles thus far -- but the production has been placed on hold for at least one game, if not longer.

According to a press release issued by the school, Smith has been suspended indefinitely by head coach Tommy Tuberville. Of course, the reasoning behind the suspension is the ubiquitous violation of unspecified team rules.

Smith was the starter coming out of summer camp, and had played in all four games this season.
