‘Bama No. 3... according to one AP voter

It’s little surprise that the Associated Press poll released this afternoon saw Ohio State slide into the top spot following Alabama’s loss to South Carolina.

There was little surprise in the rankings immediately underneath the Buckeyes as well, with Oregon, Boise State, TCU and Nebraska following in near-lockstep with the coaches’ poll in filling out the top five.

What was surprising -- and disconcerting and asinine all rolled into one “WTF?” wad of voting BS -- is the ballot of one of the “esteemed” AP voters.

Desmond Conner, UConn beat writer for the Hartford Courant, submitted a ballot that included the following slotting of teams:

No. 3: AlabamaNo. 8 AuburnNo. 13 South Carolina

(We’ll pause for a second to allow the ROTFLMMFAO to die down...)

On Sept. 27, Auburn beat South Carolina 35-27.

On Oct. 9, South Carolina beat Alabama 35-21.

So, according to Desmond Conner, Alabama is a better team than both Auburn and South Carolina, the former that beat the latter and the latter that beat the then-No. 1 team by two touchdowns.

Absolutely. Amazing.

It’s one thing to rank Alabama ahead of South Carolina; it’s a whole other level of egregious voting suck that puts an undefeated Auburn team behind the team that just got their asses handed to them by a team that the Tigers beat.

Of course, the AP recused themselves from the BcS process years ago and have zero say in the national title process. I’d say “thank The Good Lord Above” for that turn of events, if it weren’t for the fact that the Harris Poll released their initial rankings today.

Bleat much, Harris Poll voters? Kudos for proving the coaches utterly prescient by slotting the teams in nearly the exact same order six weeks in. SIDs all across the country are applauding your initial “effort”.

It’s the pinnacle of embarrassment that that group of sheep is 1/3 of what decides the national championship. As embarrassing as Conner’s vote was, it’s been trumped ten-fold by the BS that is the BcS-fueled Harris Poll.

In other news, there’s no need for a playoff. None. Everything is just fine as is. All is good, no need to dwell on the inept poll carnage.
